I’m always been asked to supply charts, and to be honest I’m useless at it. It’s like when people say “What’s your favourite song, right now?”…I haven’t a clue. Do I have to pick only one? I could name one but I’d give you a completely different answer if you asked me again in 5 minutes.
Even so, I’ve made myself a promise that I will do a monthly chart. It’s a reflection of the songs that are working for me in my sets, so expect to see everything from underground to chart topping. Well, here it is (in most cases, clicking on the link will take you to a YouTube video):
My latest remix is an entry for a remix competition run by Mark Hill (aka Artful), who was half of the legendary production duo Artful Dodger. The song is co-written by Ed Sheeran, who originally sang on the song before having to pull out for legal reasons (I’d imagine he’s under contract with Atlantic now and can’t do anything without their say so).
For obvious reasons I can’t give this away, but if I win it will get released through Workhouse Records. Anyway, enough chat, here’s the remix:
These tips are my methods and techniques. You may choose to implement or discard my techniques however you like.
DJ TIP #1:
Do you ever find yourself knocking the treble up on every channel for the duration of the night? If your tracks are sounding dull on the system (assuming it’s a decent system and not some battered old thing with shot tweeters) then I would suggest cutting the low end a little, rather than boosting the high end.
Too much bass can make things sound muddy. By cutting the bass, you are creating some space in the audible spectrum for the other frequencies to come through. Just try it for yourselves…in the club I work, I usually have the low knob set between 10 and 11 o’clock, and the mid and high knobs at around 12 o’clock, but you’ll find your own preferences.
It’s ok, I’ve not gone mad and decided to get videos for everything. This was just very quickly knocked up in Ableton Live…it’s a video for my David Guetta / Chris Brown mashup. Enjoy (or don’t. Whatever ).
Brand new mix, and the second in the Sakura Sessions series. Apologies for it not being on SoundCloud (technical problems) but I’ve hosted it elsewhere and you can still listen online and download to put on your iPods.

Digitize feat Ashleigh // Anyone Like You (Secret Soul Classic Mix)
My remix for Ultimate Dance Digital, due out 8th Jan.
For those who remember my earlier days as a producer, you’ll be pleasantly surprised (or possibly horrified, but I hope it’s the positive one) to hear me bring the Secret Soul style back.
When I received the vocal for this track I instantly came up with the idea to put some smooth chords and lush guitar licks over some crisp classic drums. Hope you enjoy
With it being at the top spot in the UK charts, I set myself a challenge of making something playable (in my sets) out of Coldplay’s “Paradise”. Ok, so the Fedde Le Grand remix helped me out already, but it still wasn’t quite doing it for me. So I sliced it up, completely removed the vocal parts, and set about finding an alternative vocal to work with. In the end I found, what I thought to be, a perfect match…Barbara Tucker’s fantastic performance on “Most Precious Love”. Enjoy.
Coldplay vs Blaze // Most Precious Love In Paradise (Tim Wright Mashup)
Spencer & Hill’s remix of the classic “For An Angel” was fantastic, but it didn’t keep the commercial floors interested. Enter Tinie Tempah’s “Pass Out” to keep them interested throughout. This is probably the mashup that has worked best on my dancefloors this year.
Paul van Dyk vs Tinie Tempah // Pass Out For An Angel (Timothy Jay’s Passed The Fuck Out Edit)
